Polytetrahydrofuran is mainly used as a soft chain segment of block polyurethane or block polyether polyester. Block polyurethane rubber made from polytetrahydrofuran with an average molecular weight of 1000, can be used as tires, transmission belts, gaskets,etc. It can also be used for coating, artificial leather, film and so on. The block polyether polyesters prepared are thermoplastic elastomers. Polytetrahydrofuran with average molecular weight of 2000 can be used to make polyurethane elastic fiber. In 2008, it was reported that the block polyurethane made from polytetrahydrofuran had good anticoagulant properties and could be used as medical polymer material.
