Anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate is colorless transparent crystal or white powder. Relative density is 1.824, melting point is 880ºC. It is soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol, its aqueous solution is alkaline, easy to weather, and hygroscopic. It has strong pH buffering property and has a certain chelating effect on metal ions.

Anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate is mainly used as a water softener, a dyeing and bleaching auxiliaries, a wool degreasing agent, a boiler descaling agent, a metal ion chelating agent, a dispersant, an auxiliary agent for dyeing and printing and straw products fine bleaching. It is an additive for synthetic detergents. It is a conditioner for oil well mud and an auxiliary agent for producing ABS resin. It is used as a complexing agent for copper in electroplating solutions. Sodium pyrophosphate decahydrate is mainly used as a toothpaste stabilizer. It is used as an emulsifier, buffer, chelating agent, gelling agent, and stabilizer in the food industry.
