Polyether polyols (abbreviated as polyethers) are oligomers whose main chain contains ether bonds (- R-O-R '-) and whose end or side groups contain more than 2 hydroxyl groups (- OH).
It is prepared by addition polymerization of starting agents (compounds containing active hydrogen) with (EO), (PO), etc. in the presence of catalysts. By changing the feeding method of PO and EO (mixed or segmented), adjusting the ratio and type of initiator, and the feeding order, various types of polyether polyols can be produced.
Polyether polyol is the main raw material of PU.
The consumption of polyether used in PU is more than 80%.
Polyether polyurethane can be classified polyether polyol (PPG), polymeric polyol (POP), polytetramethyl ether ethylene glycol (PTMEG, also called polytetrahydrofuran polyol) according to the initiator.
Polyether polyols are chemicals that are colorless to brown viscous liquids at room temperature. Commonly used in the manufacture of general purpose polyurethane foam, adhesives and elastomers. Special polyether polyols are also used as defoamer, surfactant and so on.Also it is used to produce flexible PU foam and mattress, etc.
